Walter Fitz Robert, 2nd Baron of Little Dunmow, 5th Lord of Baynard Castle (1124-1198) was the son of was the son of Sir Robert Fitz Richard, 1st Baron of Little Dunmow (1064-1138) by his wife Matilda de St. Liz (1091-1158).

Family

Walter Fitz Robert married Matilda de Bohun (1140-1222), daughter of Humphrey de Bohun by his wife Margaret of Huntingdon, Princess of Scotland (1140–1201), and had two children by that marriage:

  • Robert Fitz Walter (1167-1235) Heir; a Magna Charta Surety
  • Alice Fitz Walter; married Gilbert Peche.

When Robert, and his co-conspirators, fled after being implicated in the 1212 plot against King John, John required that the Barons present hostages to show their loyalty. Alice and Gilbert Peche had the same requirement placed against them; one of the hostages was their daughter, Alice.
